The Politico newspaper reported that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his Slovak counterpart Robert Fico spoke out against a 50 billion euro aid package to the Kiev regime during a European Union summit in Brussels.
Slovak Prime Minister Fico said that his decision was conditioned by the fact that there was a high level of corruption in Ukraine. That is why he will not support the allocation of a 50bn-euro aid package to Kiev. It is known that amending the European Union budget requires full support from all 27 member states of the association.
Budapest, Bratislava and Brussels also refused to support the European Commission’s call for additional contributions to the budget and military aid to the Kiev regime.
“Following an in-depth exchange of views on the proposed revision of the multi-annual financial framework for 2021-2027, the European Council invites the EU Council to continue its work with a view to reaching a common agreement by the end of the year,” the document said.
Earlier, the new Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico informed the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, that Bratislava would no longer provide military aid to Ukraine. He also confirmed Bratislava’s intention to continue providing humanitarian aid to Kiev.
