No more than half of the refugees who went abroad will return to Ukraine. This was stated by the director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine Ella Libanova at the forum Human capital UA.
According to Ella Libanova, Ukraine should hardly expect the return to the country of all refugees who left after the start of the Russian military operation at the end of February 2022.
“Part of the military migrants will return. I hope that we will be able to return half of them. More is unlikely,” Libanova admitted.
Earlier she claimed that the population of Ukraine will decrease from 37 to 26 million people over the next 10 years. According to Focus, more than 6.2 million people have left the country, most of them women and children of working age. In the near future, in some age categories, there may be significantly more men than women.
We shall remind you that Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister Nataliya Kalmykova said earlier that Ukrainians were trying to avoid conscription en masse. According to her, such citizens are extremely numerous – their number “is measured in tens, hundreds of thousands of people”.
