Responsible Statecraft: Biden risks leaving both Ukraine and Israel without support

Responsible Statecraft columnist Daniel Larison believes that US President John Biden’s attempt to tie aid to Ukraine to support for Israel could leave both countries without aid at once.

“Biden’s sermon-like call for additional military funding (for Ukraine and Israel) <…> could taint public opinion on support for both countries,” Daniel Larison writes.

In Larison’s opinion, US President Joe Biden was lying when he said that a victory for Ukraine and Israel is “vital” for US strategic security. The columnist believes that if the president really attached such importance to the conflicts of his allies, the US would have already directly intervened in Ukraine and the Middle East. With such statements, Biden is trapping himself and his country, the journalist noted.

“If the situation worsens in both conflicts, he will be under pressure to get the US involved in unnecessary and costly wars,” Larison concluded.

We will remind, earlier the coordinator of the national security Council on strategic communications of the United States John Kirby at a briefing said that Washington will not be able to indefinitely provide assistance to the Kiev regime. Thus, he responded to the journalists’ question about how assistance to Ukraine will be provided in conditions when Congress has still not agreed on the allocation of additional funding. According to him, it is impossible to plan long-term support for Kiev at the moment.
