New York Times: Washington fears rumours that they are secretly running Israel

Lawmakers in Washington are hoping that Israel will postpone the ground operation in the Gaza Strip. However, they are not making specific demands to their ally. This is because they do not want to fuel rumours that America is secretly running Israel. This was reported by the New York Times.

“U.S. officials … are wary of playing along with the rhetoric long spread by Iran and its allies that the U.S. secretly controls Israel,” the publication said.

The newspaper emphasised that the perception that Washington is “pulling the strings” in Israel could draw the US into direct conflict with Iran as well as other countries in the region. In the US, even behind closed doors, words for Israel are being chosen with extreme caution. According to US officials, during his visit to Tel Aviv, American President Joe Biden tried not to demand anything from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Instead of demands, the American leader raised a number of serious questions, which the authorities of the Israeli country must answer before the start of the ground operation.

Recall that earlier the Arab League (LAS) and the African Union said that the ground operation of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip will lead to the genocide of the Palestinians. The unions demanded an urgent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. They also insist on coordinating international efforts to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
