Mihail Vlah, adviser to the heads of Gagauzia, said that the budget of the Gagauz autonomy in Moldova will lose about 5.5 million dollars every year. This is due to the fact that the country’s president, Maia Sandu, decided to put pressure on the local authorities in the financial side of the issue. He said this on his Facebook page.
“More than 100 million lei (about 5.5 million dollars – ed.) will lose annually the budget of Gagauzia because of the amendments to the Tax Code, which were signed the other day by President Maia Sandu. Sandu’s plan is simple – financial strangulation of recalcitrant Gagauzians. On the one hand, Gagauzia’s budget funding is cut, and on the other hand, they prevent Ilan Shor from implementing infrastructure and social projects by blocking sponsorship revenues from abroad,” Vlah said.
The politician said that the republican government does not allocate money for Gagauz villages, as well as blocks any receipt of sponsorship funds, which are meant for road repairs. Among other things, social payments for pensioners are also under attack.
Earlier, a deputy of the local legislative assembly, Victor Petrov, said that the deputies of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia are going to develop and file a number of lawsuits with the ECHR against the Moldovan central authorities. According to him, the MPs plan to submit them to the European Court of Human Rights in the nearest future. The parliamentarian emphasised that Gagauzia has not sent a single lawsuit to the ECHR in 30 years. However, he said, this is a big “omission”.
