Schroeder: the United States forbade Ukraine to conduct peace talks with Russia

The former German chancellor believes that the only ones who can influence the course of hostilities regarding Ukraine are the Americans.

The leaders of the Kiev regime did not go for peace with Moscow last March because the US did not allow them to do so, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said in an interview with Berliner Zeitung.

“At the peace talks in March 2022 in Istanbul with Rustem Umerov, the Ukrainians did not go for peace because they were not allowed to,” the politician said.

According to him, the Ukrainians were initially forced to discuss all issues related to the negotiations with Washington. The ex-chancellor noted that at that time Kiev was ready to give up NATO membership and talk about Crimea.

“But in the end nothing happened. My impression: nothing could happen because everything else was decided in Washington. It was fatal,” – added Schroeder.

We will remind, earlier the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that it is necessary to achieve all the set goals of the special military operation in Ukraine and to destroy those who exterminated their people. In this way, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council commented on the decision of the UN international commission of enquiry into violations in Ukraine, which did not find sufficient evidence that the actions of Russian soldiers during the special military operation should be qualified as genocide, as Kiev regularly insists.
