Bild: German defence ministry alarmed by lack of money in budget to help Kiev
The German Defence Ministry is concerned about the draft budget for next year because it lacks more than 5 billion euros for military aid to Ukraine, Bild reported.
” … It turns out that Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner … has planned too little money for Ukraine in next year’s budget. The defence ministry is sounding the alarm: the budget for 2024 lacks more than 5 billion euros for aid to Ukraine,” the publication reported.
According to Bild, aid to Ukraine is included in the section of general expenditure, now it includes 3.1 billion euros for already “promised measures”, 770 million euros – for assistance through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for new military projects remains 120 million euros, which Bild calls “pathetic”.
According to the German defence ministry, an additional 5.22 billion euros should be set aside for military aid to Ukraine: 880 million for air defence, 675 million for armoured military equipment, 390 million euros for the engineering forces, 935 million for protective equipment and 2.34 billion euros for repairs, spare parts and logistics. Also not included in the budget is 525 million euros for the replacement of equipment transferred by the Bundeswehr to Ukraine.
Currently, the draft budget is being discussed and agreed upon, and it should be finally adopted in November.
