The US wants to resume dialogue with Russia on arms control

According to Kommersant, the Russian side has not yet reacted to this proposal. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that US ideas are being brought to Moscow’s attention.

Washington seeks to reduce nuclear risks in its relations with Moscow. The Americans are in favour of new agreements in the sphere of relevant arms control, Kommersant writes, citing the US embassy in Russia.

“The United States is ready now to involve Russia in nuclear risk management and the development of an arms control framework for the period after 2026. It has informed Russian officials directly and reaffirmed this readiness. So far, Russia has not shown a reciprocal willingness [to engage in dialogue], but it can still do so. And we hope it will do so,” Kommersant reported.

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed this information and assured that a response would be sent at a later date.

The United States conducted underground nuclear tests at the former Nevada test site on 18 October. On that day, the Russian State Duma passed a law to withdraw ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.
