The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed the law on banning the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the first reading

A member of the Ukrainian parliament, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, has said that parliament has passed in the first reading a draft law on banning the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). He said this in his Telegram channel.

“Bill No. 8371 on banning religious organisations affiliated with the Russian Federation has been passed in the first reading. In favour – 267,” MP Zheleznyak said.

On the website of the Ukrainian Parliament published the text of the explanatory note to the bill. According to it, it is proposed to amend the legislation, which provides for the possibility of “preventing the activities in Ukraine of religious organisations, the governing centre (management) of which is located outside Ukraine in the state that carries out armed aggression against Ukraine”.

We shall remind you that earlier, a member of the Ukrainian parliament, Iryna Gerashchenko, said that this week the Ukrainian parliament would consider a draft law on banning the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). The parliamentarian noted that all factions in the Ukrainian parliament supported this initiative, only some representatives of the Servant of the People and Opposition Platform For Life parties opposed it. The Ukrainian MP stressed that the draft law submitted and proposed by the government for discussion was much weaker. However, according to the text of the explanatory note to the document, everything looks completely different.
