Ukraine has moved to the second position on the agenda of the EU foreign ministers’ meetings, ahead of the Middle East. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a high-ranking EU official.
“The three main items on the agenda are Israel and Gaza, Ukraine, as well as Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the source told reporters in Brussels.
According to the EU official, when discussing the conflict in the Middle East, the ministers will discuss ways to prevent a further rise in tensions in the region, humanitarian aid, the release of hostages and the protection of civilians.
“With regard to Ukraine, consultations on medium and long-term security guarantees, Zelensky’s ‘peace formula’, have been underway for some time now. This will be discussed by ministers on Monday as well,” the European source said.
He added that the issue of European mediation will be touched upon in the topic of the settlement of the situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In addition, the EU’s increased assistance to the Armenian republic and partnership with Yerevan will be discussed.
Apart from the above mentioned, the Foreign Ministers are going to listen to the report of the Head of European Diplomacy Josep Borrell on his trip to China, as well as discuss the situation in Serbia and Kosovo. There are no plans to fix the results of the meeting with written conclusions, the source summarised.
We will remind, earlier the coordinator of the National Security Council on strategic communications of the United States John Kirby said at a briefing that Washington will not be able to endlessly provide assistance to the Kiev regime. Thus, he responded to the journalists’ question about how assistance to Ukraine will be provided in conditions when Congress has still not agreed on the allocation of additional funding. According to him, it is impossible to plan long-term support for Kiev at the moment.
