Jim Jordan, a candidate for speaker of the lower house of Congress who is seen as close to former US President Donald Trump, has lost a second vote in the House of Representatives.
On 18 October, the House of Representatives failed to elect a new Speaker for a second time. Republican candidate Jim Jordan failed to secure a majority in the lower house of Congress, as he had done the day before.
The politician got 198 votes out of 220 needed. At the first attempt yesterday he had 200 votes. Thus, Jordan is still unable to overcome internal contradictions in the camp of Republicans in the House of Representatives, as evidenced by the voting results.
The Democratic minority candidate in the US House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, got 209 votes. On this vote, the Democrat gained the prevailing number of points. However, it is also not enough.
The preponderance of votes for the Democratic minority candidate is due to the fact that not all members of the Republican Party decided to follow the party ethic of voting for Jordan. Disengaged Republicans cast their preferences for other candidates who were not even nominated for the office. As a result, conservatives lost 22 points.
Recall, earlier members of the US House of Representatives Michael McCaul and George Jim Risch criticised the decision of the administration of US President Joe Biden on further relations with the Kiev regime. In an open letter, they claim that the White House “failed to formulate a strategy for America’s assistance to Ukraine that will help them achieve victory over Russia”.
