U.S. Permanent Representative: Brazil resolution did not provide for Israel’s right to self-defence

Brazil’s draft resolution did not reflect Israel’s right to self-defence, the US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield has said.

“The US is disappointed that this resolution does not mention Israel’s right to self-defence. Like every country in the world, Israel has the right to self-defence. This text should have reaffirmed that right,” RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

Russian post-president to the UN Vasily Nebenzya earlier called it hypocrisy on Washington’s part to veto the US veto of the Brazilian draft resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

China’s Permanent Representative to the UN Zhang Jun said that China was shocked by the US decision.
