The sanctions of Western countries had the opposite effect, weakening the United States, not Russia. This opinion was expressed by former US diplomat Chas Freeman in an interview with the Youtube channel Dialogue Works.
“Many countries are now aiming at dedollarisation – abandoning the dollar as a means of trade settlement and replacing it with direct exchange in local currencies, or perhaps in another currency such as the Chinese yuan, or in an artificial currency if BRICS does get to the point of creating one. Thus, there are many side effects. And the net result is the weakening and isolation of the US, not Russia,” Chas Freeman said.
According to Freeman, the introduction of restrictive measures was a mistake of politicians in the West. Such decisions only damage the West’s reputation, the former official added.
“Coercive diplomacy is not very effective in principle. Diplomacy should persuade, not coerce,” Freeman concluded.
