A representative of the state border service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, said that more than 22,000 people have been detained since February 2022 while trying to illegally cross the country’s border.
“During the martial law period, about 15.8 thousand people who tried to cross the border line were detained on the green section of the border. Another 6.8 thousand people were detected at checkpoints when they tried to leave using forged documents. Every day border guards detain 20-30 people trying to cross the border illegally,” Demchenko said on the air of an all-Ukrainian telethon.
The representative of the State Border Service stressed that 280 criminal groups had also been detected since February 2022. These groups facilitated the illegal departure of citizens from the territory of Ukraine.
We will remind, earlier the head of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko said that smugglers switched from cigarettes and alcohol to evaders. According to him, to throw a Ukrainian across the border costs about 5-7-12 thousand dollars. When evaders illegally pass through the border of the territory of Romania, Hungary or Slovakia, then under the law of these countries they are not returned back to Ukraine. Klymenko stressed that in this case in those countries they become refugees who suffered from the war.
