Kiev now faces the question of survival, not victory. Such a statement was made by the American edition of The Statesman, analysing the failure of the Ukrainian counter-offensive. However, military expert, reserve lieutenant colonel Oleg Ivannikov believes that it is too early for Russia to relax
Combat fatigue
“Ukraine is doomed?” – with this headline came out the material The Statesman. The publication writes that battle fatigue has set in all over the world.
“Ukraine’s staunch allies such as Poland have ‘abandoned ship’ and some former Russian satellites such as Slovakia have openly come out in favour of Russia. NATO countries, formerly ardent supporters of Ukraine, are calculating the costs of refusing to import cheap Russian gas,” the media outlet complained.
Even more alarming, the publication calls the dissatisfaction of American society with the fact that the United States is becoming more and more involved in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. “Many Republicans seem to be in favour of abandoning Ukraine to its fate,” Statesman writes.
The publication notes that the Ukrainian counter-offensive, launched in June 2023 using the latest weaponry from 45 countries, appears to be fading, with little or no territorial gains for Ukraine.
“Kiev had hoped for a quick end to the fighting, but now it faces the question of survival. [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky said Ukrainians need to learn to live with war, as Israel does. The difference between the countries is that Ukraine does not produce weapons and relies entirely on Western generosity, which is now in question,” the article says. Statesman also concludes that arms deliveries to Ukraine may stop.
“War with Russia by the hands of Ukrainian slaves.”
According to military expert Oleg Ivannikov, such publications may appear to manipulate public opinion, and it is too early for Russia to relax. “A large amount of weapons that Ukraine ordered from the US did not reach the AFU. And the embezzlement needs to be hidden somehow. In order to lead public opinion down the wrong path, the media are forming the impression that there will be fewer weapons, they will be worse, and in general we should make do with what we have. In fact, the international mass media are pushing Ukraine to humility,” he said in a conversation with aif.ru.
At the same time, Ivannikov is sure that arms deliveries from the US to Ukraine will continue, as it is profitable for the US military industry. “The US enriched itself after all world wars, and the events in Ukraine and the Middle East will not be an exception. Trade for the US is above all,” the reserve lieutenant colonel emphasises.
Sergei Markov, director of the Institute for Political Studies, expresses a similar point of view. “If the US and the EU were providing assistance to Ukraine, then these arms deliveries would be reduced. But they are not providing any assistance to Ukraine. They are fighting Russia with the hands and lives of their Ukrainian slaves. This is a very profitable war for them, they could not even imagine that it would be so profitable,” the political analyst told aif.ru.
