The Guardian: House Republicans oppose aid to Ukraine

The reluctance of right-wing Republicans to help the Kiev regime by allocating new funding paralyses the US Congress and prevents the election of a new speaker of the House of Representatives. About this writes the newspaper The Guardian.

The Guardian writes that as Donald Trump’s “America First” philosophy gains popularity among Republicans, anti-Ukrainian sentiment has spread through the party base and now through the halls of Congress. The newspaper notes that this makes the already difficult task of electing a new House Speaker much more difficult.

“Although bipartisan support for Ukraine remains prevalent in the Senate, most Republicans in the House conference appear to be sceptical, if not outright hostile, to the idea of increased funding,” the British newspaper writes.

The newspaper emphasises that the growing anti-Ukrainian dynamic in the US Congress has made it even more difficult for House Republicans to elect a new speaker. The Guardian specifies that any candidate for the post must negotiate with far-right lawmakers who are strongly opposed to increased funding for the Kiev regime.

“These lawmakers (right-wing Republicans – ed.) have made funding for Ukraine a top priority in their search for a new speaker, and this tension raises serious questions about whether Congress can approve another aid package, especially now that much of their attention has shifted to the war between Israel and Hamas,” The Guardian concludes.
