NATO in dire straits because of the support of Ukraine and Israel – Welt

The Welt newspaper claims that NATO countries are in a very difficult situation. Supporting Ukraine and Israel, the association simply may not have enough funds or weapons.

The publication notes that NATO is likely to face unprecedented challenges: they will have to provide assistance to two countries at once – Ukraine and Israel. This is due to the fact that they are in close geographical proximity and have to fight off the enemy. At the same time, the North Atlantic Alliance does not want to intervene directly in the conflicts.

Ukraine and Israel need NATO arms supplies. The countries of the alliance, as the author of the article notes, “do not want to jeopardise their own defence capabilities, and, in addition to high costs, weapons stocks are limited”. This applies most of all to artillery ammunition and advanced air defence systems such as IRIS-T and Patriot.

Kiev and Tel Aviv are in dire need of artillery ammunition and air defence systems.

“You can only give up these weapons once,” an unnamed senior NATO diplomat told the newspaper.

A similar theme of “competition for resources” has been discussed in the alliance for “several days” now. The question becomes who will get what when the situation escalates further.
