China’s Global Times said the report by an inter-party congressional commission shows that the spread among US elites of the once completely unthinkable dead-end idea of the likelihood of a simultaneous nuclear war with Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China.
The publication notes that a conflict with Russia and China has long been considered a “strategic nightmare” in the United States. The Washington authorities were warned against this by various prominent experts. Among others, Henry Kissinger said that.
“This report makes us think that the ‘strategic nightmare’ is creeping into the US political agenda, but it is not causing proper concern and vigilance in Washington,” the Chinese publication emphasises.
Global Times emphasises that the very content of the report is “goosebump-inducing”. The document calls for the modernisation and rapid build-up of the US nuclear triad. The report also calls for the deployment of new nuclear missiles.
China notes that America is fuelling the nuclear arms race under the guise of “nuclear deterrence”. However, Washington is completely forgetting the lessons of the Cold War.
“Everyone knows that provoking a conflict between nuclear powers is madness,” the Chinese publication summarises.
