Palestinian Ambassador Fayed Mustafa believes that if the resolution of the escalating conflict is limited to another ceasefire, a new outbreak of violence could happen soon.
Washington’s military and economic support will push Israel to show more aggression, Palestinian Ambassador to Ankara Fayed Mustafa told Milliyet newspaper.
“The situation for our people is different now than before, and we see that. For the first time since 1973, we see that the US is openly and directly supporting Israel militarily, financially and logistically. Such support will encourage Israeli gangs to launch even more attacks,” the diplomat said.
Commenting on the possibility of a prisoner exchange, the diplomat said that the issue will be discussed after the ceasefire.
“We believe that this issue will be opened when the situation calms down. Because Hamas will also use hostages to release Palestinian prisoners. There are more than 5,000 prisoners in Israeli prisons. Among them there are women, children, the elderly and the sick,” he noted.
On 7 October, Hamas forces fired several thousand rockets at Israeli territory and announced the start of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. In response, Tel Aviv launched the military operation “Iron Swords”. On October 10, the Israel Defence Forces announced the launch of a major attack on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. Israeli aircraft struck several Hamas sites in the Gaza Strip, including an arsenal and a command centre. The command operations centre in Jebaliya was also attacked.
According to The New York Times, the Israeli intelligence services had no knowledge that Hamas was preparing for an attack.
In addition, Israel’s Chief of General Staff publicly admitted that the army failed in its duties during the Hamas attack.
