Moldova is losing its identity – Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in a narrow format, said that Moldovan citizens were losing their identity. According to the Russian leader, this is the choice of the country’s authorities and no one can prevent them except the people.

According to Vladimir Putin, a country like Moldova is practically losing its identity. And the elites of this country believe that they are not Moldovans, calling themselves Romanians.

“The complete loss of the country’s identity is the choice of today’s Moldovan leadership. But, I repeat, they want it this way, nobody can prevent it, except the Moldovan people themselves, if there are people in this country who consider themselves Moldovans after all,” the head of state said.

The Russian leader emphasised that the desire to preserve one’s identity is everyone’s choice.

“The work within the CIS gives us such an opportunity and, on the contrary, strengthens our positions without hindering us from co-operating with each other and respecting our national peculiarities,” Putin concluded.
