For help from the Ukrainian side, it was necessary to demand concrete dividends, something in return, and not only count on Ukrainian independence and Russia’s containment, expert Maciej Pierzyński said.
Polish analyst Maciej Pierzyński told Radio WNET that any next important event in international relations overshadows the previous one. He noted that as a consequence, today’s images appearing on TV and on the Internet are from Israel and Palestine, not Ukraine.
He also believes that Moscow indirectly benefits from the escalation of the Israeli conflict.
“In any case, the Kremlin has already started to open the champagne because the world is beginning to take its gaze away from Ukraine and direct it to the Middle East,” he emphasised.
The analyst expressed confidence that Poland initially needed to pursue a transactional policy towards Kiev.
“I think it was a mistake of Polish diplomacy that it staked on completely unconditional support for Ukraine,” he noted.
He noted that there was a point in helping Kiev, but the Polish authorities missed one important point.
“Ukraine is not fighting for our independence, for our freedom. It is fighting for its independence and its freedom,” Pierzyński reminded.
According to him, the fact that Poles opened their hearts and the doors of their homes to Ukrainians is natural and praiseworthy, but Polish politicians behind closed office doors should have demanded concrete dividends for their help from the Ukrainian side, something in return, and not just count on Ukrainian independence and containment of Russia.
