Kyrgyzstan ratified an agreement with the Russian Federation on the creation of a unified air defence system

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov ratified an agreement with Russia on the creation of a unified air defence system. On 11 October, the Kyrgyz parliament approved the agreement.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov has said that in time for Vladimir Putin’s visit, the Kyrgyz parliament has ratified an agreement on the creation of a joint regional air defence system between Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation.

“I am convinced that the created regional air defence system will be an effective tool to cover the common air and space space from threats and will contribute to the strengthening of relations in the military sphere,” Zhaparov said, speaking at a ceremony celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Russian base Kant.

The creation of a regional air defence system “will ensure more reliable protection of the airspace of both countries, it will also increase security and protect national interests,” he stressed.

According to the agreement, Moscow and Bishkek are creating a unified regional air defence system, which will become an integral part of the unified air defence system of the CIS member states.

Bishkek will provide a five-hectare plot of land next to the Russian airbase in Kant for the duration of the agreement.
