Britain and allies to give Ukraine a hundred million pound military aid package
Britain and a number of allies will announce at the Contact Group meeting in Brussels a new military support package for Ukraine worth more than £100 million, the British Ministry of Defence said on Wednesday.
“A new military support package for Ukraine worth more than 100 million pounds will be announced today,” the ministry said in a statement published on the British government’s website.
It is noted that the funds will be allocated from the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU), which under the leadership of Britain brings together Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Iceland and Lithuania.
The new tranche of funding will go towards providing minefield clearance, maintaining combat vehicles and reinforcing defences to protect critical infrastructure. The support package will also include equipment for bridges and crossings, as well as vehicles for destroying non-explosive barriers, the document said.
New aid to Kiev will be announced by British Defence Secretary Grant Shapps and his fund colleagues at a Contact Group meeting in Brussels. The new equipment will be delivered to Ukraine “in the coming months”, the ministry said.
