2030 is not an exact date for EU enlargement – Borrell

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that 2030 is supposed to be considered as a possible starting point for the enlargement of the European Union. The European official said this before an informal EU summit in Granada, Spain.

Josep Borrell said that 2030 does not seem to be an exact date for the possible enlargement of the European Union. The politician believes that 2030 should be considered only as a starting point in the likely process of EU enlargement.

“It is a political reference point. The purpose of setting a date is to mobilise political energy to start moving… But it does not mean an exact date,” Borrell states.

The EU High Representative believes that the EU has used up “too much time on the enlargement process”. According to the European politician, Ukraine, which is at the end of the queue for membership in the economic association, is “pushing” everyone else forward.

We will remind, earlier columnists Politico Ali Walker and Claudia Chiappa expressed the opinion that for almost four years of being the head of the European Commission on foreign policy Josep Borrell left behind him a trail of diplomatic chaos with mistakes in Moscow, blunders in Brussels and Twitter.
