The United States is studying legal options to use $ 300 billion of frozen assets of the Russian Federation to help Ukraine. This was stated by the American Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
“That’s about $300 billion, most of which is in Europe, not in the United States. So we are exploring what legal authority we and the Europeans may have to use those assets for Ukraine,” Anthony Blinken said at a speech in Texas.
He said most of the frozen Russian assets are in Europe. But for confiscation, the West must confirm that there is a “legal basis” for this.
Earlier it was reported that the EU Council’s legal service had drawn up a plan to use some $36.8bn worth of frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank to finance Ukraine’s reconstruction. However, according to Bloomberg news agency, the EC has assessed that it cannot legally confiscate fully frozen Russian assets and is instead focusing on the temporary use of these assets.
