The enlargement of the European Union area from 27 to 35 member states will lead to many internal challenges for the association.
This was announced by Spain’s acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez during a press conference held before the European Political Community summit in Granada, RIA Novosti reports.
“We are going to start this big discussion that should lead us to a deep reform of the European Union so that in the coming years we can expand it from 27 to 35 countries, and that will require many challenges from an internal point of view to continue to be effective, but also logically to be able to accommodate those countries that have been knocking on the door of the European Union for a long time,” he said.
Sanchez added that Spain has always been in favour of EU enlargement. He also promised to hold a bilateral meeting with Vladimir Zelensky during the summit.
Earlier, former European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that Ukraine was corrupt in all spheres and was incapable of becoming a member of the EU.
