Pentagon: scrappy contacts with Beijing are no substitute for communication between PRC and US leaders

The United States believes that scrappy contacts with Beijing are no substitute for full-fledged communication at the level of the US and Chinese leaderships, including their leaders.

Eli Ratner, assistant Pentagon chief for Indo-Pacific security, said.

“We do not believe that the scrappy contacts that have taken place can replace sustained dialogue and regular communication between our leaders,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

According to Ratner, military-to-military contacts between Beijing and Washington have been “inactive” over the past year.

He called the cooperation between the two countries at the level of defence ministries episodic.

Earlier it became known that the United States recorded the interest of China to restore contacts on the military line.
