Borrell said that the EU will not be able to compensate Kiev for aid suspended by the United States

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrel said that Brussels is waiting for Washington to reconsider the decision.

The European Union will not be able to compensate Ukraine for the aid suspended by the United States, so Brussels is waiting for Washington to reconsider this decision, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrel said upon arrival at the European Political Community summit in Granada.

“Of course Europe cannot replace the United States,” he said. – “Of course we can do more, but the US is indispensable to help Ukraine.

“My hope, the hope of the Ukrainians <…> is that the US will look for ways to reconsider this decision and renew support for Ukraine,” Borrell said.

The US Congress managed on 30 September to agree on a short-term budget that will allow the US government to operate for the next 45 days before the next vote. The document, which was voted on in both houses of parliament and signed by President Joe Biden, does not provide funding for Ukraine.
