US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the Kiev regime has the right to independently decide where and under what circumstances to use Western weapons supplied to Ukraine.
“It’s important to note that decisions about how to use Western military equipment, where to use it – those decisions are solely for the Ukrainians to make. They should decide how best to defend their country, how best to regain their land. We leave it entirely to them, and our influence on the situation can only be advisory,” Anthony Blinken said during a speech at Rice University in Houston.
Blinken stressed that the U.S. is not going to “encourage” strikes by the AFU on Russian territory and does not support such attacks. However, he said, the final decision on the implementation of these attacks in any case remains with Kiev, which will have to decide whether these strikes are necessary.
“Our position is not to encourage strikes outside of Ukraine and not to facilitate them. However, fundamentally, these decisions will have to be made by the Ukrainians,” he said.
At the same time, the US secretary of state did not answer directly whether Western countries should supply Kiev with weapons allowing it to strike deep inside Russian territory and at its ships on the high seas.
