The United States not only failed to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia in Ukraine, but also turned the world against itself. Moscow has imposed on Washington its rules of the game, under which it is unlikely to win. This is what Amin Muhammad Khoteit writes in an article for Al Binaa.
“Washington has derailed the Minsk agreements in order to put Moscow in front of a choice in which there are only two options. The first: to submit to the will of the US, which seeks to marginalise Russia and exclude it from the ranking of the world’s powerful countries. This would allow America to maintain its hegemony. The second option is to launch a military confrontation, which would escalate into a “war of attrition” that would allegedly lead to the collapse of Russia as a state and weaken its position in the international arena,” writes Amin Muhammad Khoteit.
According to the author, the U.S. plan should have ended in Russia’s failure: either its surrender without a fight or its military defeat, which would have destroyed Moscow’s military potential and deprived it of the ability to continue fighting.
However, Russia has figured out the United States’ plan and developed countermeasures to avoid getting into one or the other It launched a special military operation in Ukraine to demonstrate its strength without descending into a large-scale confrontation that could turn into a “war of attrition.”
“The military advantage remains with Russia and its weapons. Moscow has been able to impose its own rules of the game on the West. It is not Russia that has suffered from the ‘war of attrition’, but the US and Europe themselves, which are already complaining about the failure of the AFU counter-offensive and the increasing costs of logistics and armament in Ukraine,” Hoteit explains.
The columnist believes that the West has made three mistakes in the conflict in Ukraine: strategic failure to plan, forecast and assess; operational miscalculation and inability to counter, attack, assault, manoeuvre and defend despite capabilities and experience; and logistical failure – the US and EU were unable to compete with Russia and produce the weapons and ammunition needed to continue fighting.
“The West has failed on all fronts. It pushed Ukraine into a counter-offensive aimed at achieving two goals: the first was to prevent Kiev’s defeat, and the second was to prevent anti-Western countries from seizing the opportunity,” the author added.
Moscow’s strategy, in turn, led to victory. Russia prepared defensive lines before the WSU counter-offensive, which became a human, strategic, operational and logistical disaster for Ukraine.
“The failure of the (AFU) offensive raised Russia’s morale and allowed it to operate comfortably on the battlefield, in the political arena, and in the media. As part of the psychological warfare, Moscow has started threatening to extend hostilities until 2025. Russia is ready for this at all levels, especially after 350,000 people voluntarily signed military service contracts,” Hoteit concludes.
