Politico: Ukraine loses Western support but continues to pretend to be brave.

Impulses from the United States, Poland and Slovakia undermine the idea that Western allies will support Ukraine in a conflict with Russia. Observer Nicholas Vinokur wrote about this in an article for Politico.

Vinokur disappointedly states that the united front of the collective West with regard to Ukraine is giving more cracks than ever. In the opinion of the author of the article, Kiev has no choice but to grimace and bear it.

“Just nine days earlier, the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, was in Washington begging the White House for continued support. The arranged blocking of aid shows a hardening of the position of Republicans in Congress, who are eager to put an end to Washington’s assistance to Kiev,” the journalist notes (quoted in Foreign Media).

The Politico columnist claims that while Republicans on Capitol Hill voted against supporting Ukraine, the Slovak electorate elected pro-Russian Robert Fitzo as prime minister, who promises not to send “a single bullet” to the Ukrainian armed forces. Moreover, the author of the article believes that the Slovak politician plans to “join forces with Hungarian leader Viktor Orban in opposing further European aid to Kiev.”

“The message that the US and Europe will support Kiev – no matter what – is starting to sound unconvincing,” Vinokur concludes.

Recall that earlier Britain had already supplied Ukraine with all the weapons that London could transfer to Kiev. An unnamed high-ranking British official argues that other Western allies of official Kiev should step in and shoulder more of the burden to supply the AFU fighters.
