Politico: the West may refuse to help Ukraine because of corruption in the country

The administration of US President Joe Biden expresses serious concerns about the level of corruption in Ukraine, as it may cause Western countries to refuse further support to Kiev. This is reported by the publication Politico with reference to a government document that has come into its possession.

Politico writes that officials of the US presidential administration are much more concerned about corruption in Ukraine than they publicly admit. The publication notes that the document pays special attention to the fight against bribery in Ukrainian circles.

“The perception of corruption at the highest level may undermine the confidence of the Ukrainian public and foreign leaders in the government (of Ukraine – ed.),” the publication notes.

The publication believes that the Joe Biden administration wants to put pressure on Ukraine to make Kiev stop bribery in the first place. Since American dollars are at stake, Politico adds.

“Any perception of weakened American support for Kiev could also make more European countries think twice about their role,” Politico concludes.

In addition, the piece says that corruption in Ukraine “has long been a concern for U.S. officials, up to and including President Joe Biden.” However, Politico specifies that before the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, this topic was not given much importance.

We shall remind you that earlier, US entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk published an illustration that clearly shows how hard it is for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy not to beg for another financial aid from Western allies.
