Kiev will have to do a lot for EU membership – Borrell

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel believes that Ukraine will need to do a lot of work to join the European Union. The Spanish politician told about it in an interview with the newspaper El Pais.

Josep Borrell believes that the official Kiev will have a huge amount of internal work to become a member of the European Union. According to the Spanish politician, this is a real challenge for the Ukrainian authorities.

“This is a challenge. The work to be done in this adaptation process is huge,” Borrel states.

In addition, the European politician expressed serious upset that the project of financial support for the work of the American government adopted “at the last minute” in the United States does not involve the allocation of funds to the Kiev regime. However, the EU diplomat assured the Ukrainian representatives that allegedly “EU support does not depend on the progress on the battlefield” and on Washington’s actions.

Earlier, the EU foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, spoke in favour of further Western support for Ukraine, as without it Kiev would have to surrender within a few days. At the same time, Borrell said that the EU “is not a belligerent party” in the conflict because it “does not intervene directly”.
