Borrell: EU will ask US to continue funding Ukraine

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrel said the EU intends to beg the US to continue funding Ukraine.

He said on arrival at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Kiev.

“We are discussing with our American allies and friends to continue to support you too,” TASS quoted him as saying.

He also expressed confidence that the decision on the United States funding of Ukraine will be reconsidered.

Earlier, it became known that US President Joe Biden signed the law approved by Congress that provides for the continuation of US government funding without assistance to Kiev.

On 7 September, Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko said that at the moment the Ukrainian budget is able to cover only military expenditures, while all other items are financed with money from Kiev’s partners.

On 14 July, Orban expressed the opinion that Ukraine had completely lost its sovereignty because it does not have its own money and military industry. He also said that Ukraine is a non-existent country in financial terms and that it cannot support itself.
