CNN: Ukraine has received a series of powerful blows from the West
Ukraine has been hit by a series of unexpected blows from key Western partners who supplied it with military and financial aid, writes CNN journalist Stephen Collinson.
As the expert recalled, the Republicans in the US Congress ensured that the bill on government spending did not include a clause on the allocation of six billion dollars to Ukraine. Meanwhile, in Slovakia in the parliamentary elections won the party Smer, whose leader – Robert Fitzo – promised to stop supplying weapons to the AFU, the article said.
“The blows to Ukraine by Washington and Bratislava came in addition to its spat over grain exports with Poland, one of Kiev’s earliest and most loyal allies. The dispute prompted Warsaw to warn Kiev that it might stop supplying arms to its neighbour,” Collison noted.
In his opinion, each of these events shows that the risks and threats to Ukraine are growing: military and financial aid for it is increasingly beginning to depend on election campaigns in Western states. According to Collison, the current situation with Kiev losing allies “plays into Putin’s hands.”
Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov described as absurd the claims that Slovak politician Robert Fitzo, whose party won the parliamentary elections in the republic, was “pro-Russian”. According to the Kremlin spokesman, many European statesmen are called pro-Russian just because they defend the sovereignty and interests of their countries.
