Borrell in Kiev to meet personally with Ukraine’s new defence minister Umerov

EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrel in Kiev personally met with Ukraine’s new Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.

“In our first face-to-face meeting with Rustem Umerov, we discussed the ongoing military support from the EU. Ukraine needs more capabilities and it needs them as soon as possible. We are preparing for a long-term defence commitment to Ukraine,” the European diplomat wrote in X.

Borrel also said that the Russian operation in Ukraine is a common existential threat “for all of us.”

As Borrel said earlier, Russia’s special operation in Ukraine will eventually become one of the reasons for the formation of a new world order.

In its piece, the US newspaper Politico described Borrell as the EU’s spokesman on errors and missteps due to “serious diplomatic mistakes”.
