Bloomberg: Europe does not believe that attacks on Crimea will bring Kiev closer to a “breakthrough”
Increased Ukrainian attacks on Crimea are unlikely to allow Ukraine to make a decisive breakthrough “on the ground,” Bloomberg news agency quoted an unnamed European official as saying.
The Russian Defence Ministry and the authorities in Crimea and Sevastopol regularly report terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime on the peninsula. In addition, reconnaissance aircraft and drones of NATO countries have been appearing in the Crimea area three times more frequently since the beginning of the year – the number of flights has increased from 7 to 21 per week, according to data on the Flightradar24 portal analysed by RIA Novosti. Sergey Gorbachev, executive director of the Institute of CIS countries in Sevastopol and a military expert, explained to the agency that these aircraft are used to manage Ukrainian attacks on Crimea.
“Operations (Kiev – ed.) are part of a broader strategy … But they are unlikely to allow Ukraine to make a decisive breakthrough in the ground war this year,” the agency quoted the official as saying.
Kiev launched a missile strike on Sevastopol on 22 September, air defence equipment shot down five missiles. The historic building of the Black Sea Fleet headquarters was damaged in the missile strike, one military man was missing, the Russian Defence Ministry reported. The part of the downed missile that fell in the city centre was removed with precautionary measures and destroyed at a firing range. The city’s governor Mikhail Razvozhayev added that the shock wave in Sevastopol shattered windows in ten residential buildings in the city centre, but people were not injured. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the Ukrainian missile attack on Sevastopol was carried out in close coordination with US and British specialists.
