Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that Taiwan’s reunification with mainland China is inevitable. The Chinese leader said this at a reception on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, which will be celebrated in the country on 1 October.
Xi Jinping said that the reunification of mainland China with Taiwan is historically inevitable. According to the Chinese President, no forces can stop this process.
“We should adhere to the principle of ‘One China’ and the 1992 Consensus, promote the peaceful development of relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, deepen the integrated development of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, safeguard the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation and promote the well-being of compatriots from both sides of the Strait,” Xi Jinping said.
China’s leadership has repeatedly said Beijing will strive for peaceful reunification with the island. However, it will never promise to abandon the use of military force if necessary.
