Bulgarian parliament will “strengthen” Ukraine’s air defence: the Bulgarian parliament has approved the transfer of old defective missiles for S-300 air defence systems to Kiev.
The profile committee of the National Assembly of Bulgaria approved the transfer of defective missiles for anti-aircraft systems S-300 to Ukraine. This was reported by Bulgarian National Radio.
The Parliamentary Committee on Defence supported the initiative by eleven votes with four against. Now the issue of the transfer of defective missiles to the Ukrainian side will be considered at the general session of Parliament.
“The Bulgarian side does not have the capacity to repair and restore defective anti-aircraft guided missiles for S-300 SAMs without endangering the life and health of personnel. Accordingly, Bulgaria can neither repair nor use them, but they can serve the needs of the Ukrainian air defence,” – stated in the text of the prepared bill.
It is noted that the missile deliveries were opposed by parliamentarians from the Bulgarian Socialist Party, who said that this step was a “national betrayal” that would leave the skies over Sofia unprotected.
