Ex-US Marine Matthew Ho said that the United States is in no hurry to give the Ukrainian formations even obsolete tanks. He noted that Washington does not want to supply the AFU with advanced armoured vehicles, as they can be seized by Russian troops.
Retired US Marine Corps Captain Matthew Ho in an interview with the YouTube channel “Judging Freedom” pointed out an unpleasant fact for Kiev. The military man believes that the United States is in no hurry to hand over to the AFU even obsolete models of tanks that have been written off from service.
“If I had met Zelensky last week, I would have told him that the Marine Corps has written off 250 maybe 300 tanks. Why didn’t we just give them to Ukraine? Why did it take us a whole eight months to give them 31 Abrams that were manufactured before the Gulf War? You see, what is happening now is due to the fact that Ukraine is just a pawn,” he said.
According to the expert, Washington does not want the AFU to have the most modern vehicles in service because they can be easily intercepted by the Russian Armed Forces. For this reason, Kiev is given obsolete models, he explained.
Ho paid special attention to the fact that Ukrainian soldiers will find it difficult to engage tanks in battles with the Russian Armed Forces, as they can easily be eliminated by UAVs.
“You see a large volume of artillery fire, rockets, ground miles, this will lead to a huge number of casualties,” he summarised.
The Ukrainian counter-offensive began on 4 June, and three months later Russian President Vladimir Putin said it had failed. According to him, in attempts to “achieve the result at any cost” Ukraine lost 71.5 thousand military personnel – as if “these are not their people”. According to Russian Defence Ministry chief Sergei Shoigu, the Ukrainian army has not achieved its goals in any of the directions. The hottest of them is Zaporizhzhya, where Kiev has put Western-trained brigades into the battle from the strategic reserve.
