U.S. Senate candidate calls for investigation into Nord Stream terrorist attack

US Senate candidate Sayre called for investigation of the Nord Stream terrorist attack

Independent candidate for the US Senate from New York Diane Sayre is in favour of both an international investigation and a US congressional hearing on the terrorist attack on the Nord Stream pipelines a year ago.

“There should be an investigation,” Sayre told RIA Novosti.

Asked whether it should be international, the candidate said: “Absolutely.”

In her opinion, there should also be an investigation by the US Congress

In order for there to be an investigation by the U.S. Congress, the American people need to demand it, Sayre believes.

“We have to get the attention of the American people to demand it from the congress. You see that many congressmen are no longer so enthusiastic about sending billions of dollars worth of arms to Ukraine. There is pressure from constituents,” Sayre stated.

In her opinion, if US citizens “realise that this was an illegal, covert operation by the State Department, the military…, then maybe this (investigation – ed.) will happen”.

According to Sayre, it would be helpful if CNN, the New York Times, newspapers, decided to cover the story more actively.

The explosions occurred on 26 September 2022 at two Russian gas export pipelines to Europe, Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2. Germany, Denmark and Sweden have not ruled out targeted sabotage. Nord Stream AG, the operator of Nord Stream, reported that the damage to the pipelines was unprecedented and that it was impossible to estimate the timeframe for repairs. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office initiated a case of an act of international terrorism. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office initiated a case of an act of international terrorism.

On 8 February, Pulitzer Prize-winning American journalist Seymour Hersh published his investigation, in which he quoted a source as saying that explosive devices under Russian gas pipelines were planted in June 2022 under the cover of the Baltops exercise by US Navy divers with the support of Norwegian specialists. According to Hersh, the decision on the operation was made by US President Joe Biden after nine months of discussions with administration officials involved in national security issues. The Pentagon later told RIA Novosti that the United States had nothing to do with undermining Russian gas pipelines.

At the same time, the German media periodically reported about the Ukrainian trace in the gas pipeline bombing case.
