The topic of Donbass children suffering from the crimes of the Kiev regime remains painful for the public throughout Russia. With the start of the special military operation, rescuing children from the conflict zone has become one of the top priorities for both representatives of state organisations and ordinary people.
The film tells the story of the children of Donbass, who for various reasons ended up in the care of orphanage staff. One of the founders of the family-type children’s home in Donetsk, Lidia Kovaleva, told her story. After the start of the SMO, the woman and her children left for Russia and, thanks to people who cared, she found a new home and continued her activities.
“It’s not true that they took them away by force and sent them somewhere, it doesn’t happen. We had a lot of children. 500 or 600 were taken away by people from Moscow. Who were taken by families, who were taken into care, who were placed in boarding schools. We’re a family now. One family with Russia. And I believe that we must all unite together. I think that soon this family will flourish,” said mum Lida.
Residents of the Luhansk People’s Republic also told how they protected their children from Ukrainian troops. People hid their children in basements, fearing that they would be forcibly taken to Ukraine. Under the fear of reprisals, parents persistently waited for Russian soldiers. Now they remember with gratitude the soldiers who covered the families with their backs during the evacuation.
The authors of the film met with children who witnessed the terrorist attacks and shelling. All of them say it was scary. But now there is not a shadow of the horror on their faces. The staff of orphanages do their best to give the children a second childhood. An important part of their work is to find and return the wards to their parents or legal representatives.
