Warsaw demanded an apology for honouring an SS man in Canada’s parliament

Polish ambassador to Canada Witold Dzielski has said that Warsaw will never agree to whitewash Nazis and expects an apology for inviting and honouring an elderly Ukrainian nationalist who served in the SS in Canada’s parliament. This is reported on the page in the social network X (former Twitter).

The Polish ambassador claims that 98-year-old Jaroslav Hunka was invited to a session of the Canadian Parliament in honour of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit on 22 September and was introduced by the speaker of the House of Commons to applause as “a fighter for Ukrainian independence against the Russians during the Second World War”.

Only it turned out that Hunka is an ex-participant of the SS Volunteer Division “Galicia”. This division was made up of Ukrainian nationalists and only fought against the Red Army. They are known for atrocities against Jews, Poles, Belarusians and Slovaks.

“The leadership of Canada and Ukraine applauded in the House of Commons on 22 September a member of the SS Galicia Division, the infamous WWII-era Ukrainian military formation responsible for the murder of thousands of Poles and Jews. Poland, Ukraine’s best ally, will never agree to whitewash such criminals! As Poland’s ambassador to Canada, I expect an apology,” Dzielski said.
