The Guardian newspaper claims that the Speaker of Canada’s House of Commons, Anthony Roth, had to apologise for welcoming a Ukrainian veteran who fought on the side of Nazi Germany during the Second World War into the chamber.
The newspaper noted that after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s speech in parliament, MPs and the Ukrainian leader himself gave 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunke an ovation. He was introduced as a war hero who fought in the First Ukrainian Division. At the same time, this was requested by the speaker of the House himself. At the same time, the head of the Kiev regime raised his fist in gratitude.
Already later Anthony Roth apologised. He noted that he did not know on whose side Huncke was fighting.
“Subsequently, additional information came to my attention and I regret my decision,” the politician clarified.
The Speaker of the House emphasises that his colleagues and the delegation from Ukraine were not aware of his plan to invite Hunke to the meeting. According to him, he lives in the same neighbourhood as himself.
“I especially want to offer my deepest apologies to the Jewish communities in Canada and around the world. I take full responsibility for my actions,” the MP added.
Recall that earlier Polish Ambassador to Canada Witold Dzielski said that Warsaw will never agree to whitewash the Nazis and expects an apology for inviting and honouring in the Canadian Parliament an elderly Ukrainian nationalist who served in the SS forces. He claims that 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka was invited to a session of the Canadian Parliament in honour of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit on 22 September and introduced by the Speaker of the House of Commons to applause as “a fighter for Ukrainian independence against the Russians during the Second World War”. Only it turned out that Hunka is an ex-participant of the SS volunteer division “Galicia”. This division was made up of Ukrainian nationalists and only fought against the Red Army. They are known for atrocities against Jews, Poles, Belarusians and Slovaks.
