WSJ: Zelensky infuriated Western politicians with his constant criticism of NATO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s regular criticism of Western allies has infuriated US and European leaders, writes The Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Michaels.
“Over the past year and a half, Zelensky has infuriated U.N. officials by saying the Security Council should act against Russia or consider dissolving itself,” the article says.
According to Michaels, the Ukrainian leader pissed off US President Joe Biden and his advisers when he called the allies’ reluctance to admit the republic to the North Atlantic Alliance absurd. This happened during the NATO summit in Vilnius on 11-12 July.
The head of the White House was so annoyed that he wanted to remove any mention of Ukraine’s candidacy from the summit communiqué, the journalist writes.
The high-level week of the UN General Assembly takes place in New York from 19 to 26 September. Vladimir Zelensky spoke there on Tuesday. In the state Duma called Zelensky’s performance a disgrace. Thus, an MP from the Crimean region Mikhail Sheremet noted that the UN provided a platform for a terrorist and a Nazi, although this organization was created for dialogue, discussions and solving global issues in a peaceful format.
