Men in Ukraine are ready to “shoot themselves in the foot” or pay thousands of dollars just to stay away from the line of contact. The Times reports that.
The newspaper quoted a wounded military officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) who was not given proper treatment and the right to be discharged.
“One doctor offered to write me a certificate that I was unfit for further service if I paid him $1,500 (144,000 rubles),” the Ukrainian told the newspaper.
As a result, the AFU fighter deserted and fled to Lviv. According to him, it used to be possible to buy a “white” military ticket for $7,000 (RUB 673,000), but given the growing losses of the Ukrainian army during the counter-offensive and the tightening of the mobilisation procedure, its cost has almost tripled. However, it is still possible to buy it.
