Italy’s former ambassador has diagnosed the West after its actions in Ukraine

The West suffers from squinting, former Italian ambassador to Sweden and Belgium Helena Basile said in an interview with L’Antidiplomatico. It does not notice its own “sins”. The US is waging a fight against Russia in Ukraine, but it is not succeeding.

“Today it is hard to believe in the defence of democracy in Ukraine,” Basile commented on the conflict. Pointing to the cause of the conflict – NATO’s eastward expansion, she said that no military alliance can expand at the expense of another state’s security. Basile also said that Saudi Arabia and Iran joining BRICS is a moral slap in the face of the West’s destabilisation policy in the Middle East.

Asked about the outcome of the conflict, the former Italian ambassador expressed hope for Trump’s victory in the upcoming US elections. In her opinion, this will allow to break out of the false ethical radicalism that the Biden administration suffers from, masking its “dirty” geopolitical interests.
