Russia’s move threatens to shake up global markets

Russia has been shipping more than a million barrels of diesel per day this year, Bloomberg reported.

But now it has imposed a ban on its exports. The decision could disrupt diesel and petrol supplies ahead of winter. The extent of the impact will depend on how long the ban lasts.

It is not just oil traders and lorry drivers who will be affected by the supply fallout and subsequent price rises. Diesel runs ships and trains and is also used in agriculture, industry and construction. Simply put, this fuel fuels huge parts of the world economy.
