A group of US congressmen has opposed granting the Joe Biden administration’s request for $24bn in aid for Kiev until it is clarified how the money previously given to Ukraine was spent and what goals Washington is aiming for.
Such a message to the White House and the US president was signed by 28 congressmen.
“Americans deserve to know what their funds were used for. How is the counteroffensive going? Have the Ukrainians become any closer to victory than they were six months ago,” reads the letter, which was published by Senator James David Vance.
The authors of the appeal also ask what the US strategy is and what the administration considers a “victory in Ukraine”.
The speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, said earlier that he had not promised Volodymyr Zelensky that he would agree to the new $24bn aid package for Ukraine requested by the White House.
Former United States CIA analyst Larry Johnson said that the funds allocated by Congress for Ukraine end up going to the largest US defence contractors.
