Brussels says it is considering defending Hungary, Poland and Slovakia at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over Ukraine’s grain import ban lawsuit.
This is stated in the publication of The Financial Times with reference to the European Commission’s written appeal to Warsaw, Budapest and Bratislava.
“In accordance with EU law, the EC will participate in these WTO proceedings initiated against member states,” the publication wrote.
It is also claimed that the EC had initially demanded that the countries lift the ban on imports of Ukrainian grain, but the organisation is now working in “coordination of legal actions” regarding possible opposition to Kiev’s complaint at the WTO.
Earlier, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia stopped participating in the coordination platform with the EC on grain issues.
On 18 September, Kiev filed lawsuits with the WTO.
